Polaris Wheel Bearings

Case study (I) Study

Let me illustrate with an actual case the result of developing a project in our engineering.
2 weeks ago received an important and difficult assignment: to develop a final design of a building of 40,000 m2 in 2 weeks. The commission came to us through a construction company, which in turn received a proposal from an agency of PM. The client is a leading national business sector and distribution.
Range: do the final design of the building of 40,000 m2 of warehouse and offices. The project consists of building envelope (Structure and cladding). In this case the civil work is excluded. Information
game: very generic blueprint. Time and commitment
: within 2 weeks to generate the documentation in paper and electronic on the specialties listed, for inclusion in the final design of the building overall.

Once clearly identified goals, and held an internal meeting planning approach the work as follows, under the coordination of the head of our engineering:
- assign a senior engineer calculation, which is responsible for the calculation structures in Robot.
- parallel team designers of enclosures, formed by 2 people sometimes begin to work on the Tekla 3D model, model only organize and summarize all the work done by our engineering.
- At 3 days into the structural calculation, we are able to start providing information to the designer of structure, which collects information directly generated by the spreadsheet software Robot, and integrates it into Tekla. Initially proceeds to generate the actual structure without taking the time to definitive joint design. Interested at this early stage the largest possible volume model structure.
- Planners of well defined walls of the building envelope, what makes the geometric measure of the project that will have to respect the structure designer. The fact of working in real-time multi-user can see the evolution of all the disciplines, and detect interference between them. Although not our responsibility to the modeling of the civil works, this is inseparable from the building itself, and for best results we proceed to model the concrete base, perimeter walls, floors, etc..
- After 7 days we plan a follow up meeting, which will assist not to move forward the work. Generate an exportable model 3D, we provide the builder. This model REVIEWER formats can be viewed from any computer without specific software. It also allows on-screen annotation and comments (RFI & CO). The meeting is conducted by the builder to the end customer.
building model in 5 days
appear at the first meeting, by the property, some fears can be attributed to the traditional concept on how to tackle the project, an inertia that we we are changing all the projects in which we participate.
These concerns relate primarily to the lack of availability of information on paper, whose only function is to bring 'peace' to the customer. Indeed we think that the time devoted to the generation of copies and documents 'intermediate' no added value to the project and greatly reduces productivity. The current change is to make the different players in the project are able to interact with the model. Possibly one of the biggest barriers to concepctuales we face.
Bear in mind, what other software is a slow and complex process, the production of maps with our software continues to be a more or less automatic, so our approach is still to continue completing the model and create drawings on the last day.
- will inevitably occur some changes that will affect the design done. Another advantage is that our model is a smart model, where relations between objects are defined. Changing processes such as internal heights or wrought songs, the filmmakers in a very short time, automatically adjusting all the joints and semi-finished flat at the moment.
- 3 days after the meeting, we again have a second follow-up meeting. In this case in our offices and do all the display of a 3D-presentation meeting. For nearly 3 hours we meet 7 people, including the representative of the property, to revisit the state of progress of the project. The result is satisfactory.
- in estrus 3 days we have made a real unions, we detected several inconsistencies in the baseline, inconsistencies are easily detected in a 3D model in conventional 2D medium have gone unnoticed until the construction phase. We have integrated child elements as dock doors, ventilators, lighting, interior partitions, stairs, etc.
- After two weeks we pour all the model information at various levels, as listed in the property, with the conviction of having completed a great job and have improved the initial blueprint. Attached some screenshots
screen that illustrate work

Our organization, with a clear web2.0 and 'low cost' has been charged only direct costs that resulted from this participation (1 responsible departmental computing 1 engineer, 3 acting special projects and coordinated in part) with an economic downright reasonable.
To finish only comment that the executive model is fully realized. We can continue to process orders quickly making materials (Structure, cladding, accessories), generating cutting planes for shop fabrication and assembly drawings.

Endocrinologist Headache

metal industrial buildings under fire

Within the usual contributions the company makes with Polytechnic University of Catalonia, there were 2 projects race to Escuela Superior de Ingenieros Industriales de Barcelona promoted by the current Vircop engineering department.
Both projects deal with the problems of metal structures under the action of fire, knowing that the new regulations and the Technical Code and the Eurocode 3 allows the use of advanced calculation methods instead of more traditional and conservative approaches, in what has become known as the Fire Safety Engineering (ISAI).

As the subject of the two projects were proposed a concept of a building consisting of terraced industrial units usable area between 150 and 250 m2 , compartmentalized by the use of precast concrete.

The first project, ' simulation using computational fluid mechanics of fire scenarios in real industrial sites ', by Adrien Dufour, a study and advanced simulation of different fire scenarios. This project examines the evolution of temperatures in an enclosure taking into account the fire load and sectorisations wall insulation, ventilation, air flows and exhaust gas among other things, and determining the actual fire curves for case 'realistic' (medium risk, intrinsic level 3, 990 MJ / m²) and one case 'critical' (medium risk, intrinsic level 5, 3400 MJ / m²).
One of the conclusions of this study is that, unlike the ISO fire curve (standard fire) when the temperature is always increasing, in real fires the temperature decreases due to lack of fire load between 60 to 90 minutes. In the case of a fire 'realistic' without the intervention of the fighting services, the temperature does not exceed 700 degrees, a temperature value slightly harmful to the metal structure, whereas in the case of a fire 'critical' temperature could reach 1200 degrees.

This study is used as a starting point of the project 'Study thermo-mechanical behavior of a steel structure under the action of fire ' by Teresa Armengou.
By using complex computational tools and simplified methods of calculation are trying to determine the structure of buildings regulatory requirements arcades, and that the collapse of any of the ships on fire did not cause the collapse of neighboring buildings.

different scenarios were analyzed considering the burning fire of a ship and a ship mid corner. The study's findings is that the housing in the worst case holds approximately 18 minutes, and that the force exerted by it on the main portal and sectorization for its collapse is very small magnitude, so that causes no drag neighboring ship. The main structure, protected by elements of passive protection measures (rock wool mortar projected fibrosilicatos, etc), hold the entire fire perfectly, even the most unfavorable for the time required by regulation.
advanced calculation models have improved the designs of ships and conclude that together behave as an industrial pillar type B shares, according to classification RSCIEI. This has been justified that the fire is contained in each bay with no possibility of spread to neighboring buildings or structural collapse in a chain.

Virtual Building (BIM)

This is an article which they published in 2006 jointly with the head of R + D + i, L uis Andres Vizcarra, and that somehow indicates the action line our engineering, and now has full effect:

Virtual Construction is a term, also known as BIM (Building Information Modeling), which is to describe the methodologies for the full modeling of buildings by using advanced tools for 3D design. Actually the term BIM is gaining presence in recent years, being called in some expert circles as the "next revolution in building technology."
Engineering Department Our company is a pioneer in our country in the use of 3D design tools, initially to facilitate the process of designing and manufacturing their own products (metal frame, metal cladding and curtain walls). In 1997 we became the first English company to implement the prestigious Tekla Structures software (formerly called Xsteel). With this software conceptual change occurs in the 2D design process (traditional) to 3D.

The design of the building's structure allows for better 3D understanding of it, collision detection and a drastic elimination of design errors. The various components more than 'simple lines' smart object related information (type profile, weight, area, cdg ,...). The generation of exploded drawings automatically and electronic communication with the CNC machines can completely eliminate the traditional manufacturing errors related to the transit of information in different formats or environments.
BIM However, the concept goes beyond the simple use of design software 3D. The BIM model beyond being a 3D image adds value to the project because:
  • is a unique model is updated gradually by providing multi-user simuntánea.
  • provides an integrated resource shared by all members of the project.
  • visually facilitates decision-making.
  • and its protocol allows a collaborative environment, so necessary in the development of projects of increasing complexity.
  • is an added value in Business Study phase, as Property can show clearly what is being planned.
  • allows the creation of 'viewers 3D' available at all times for the different work teams, which enables the anticipation of the tasks and facilitates conflict resolution.

that lie immediately ahead in terms of technologies applied to building design?
seems clear to ensure that the BIM is presented as a key approach that we will soon make the transition from 3D to 4D and 5D.
If our model BIM contains a detailed and comprehensive information on all items (quantities), we understand cost 4D any information obtained from the model. Schematically:

Cannot
x Cost / ud + Margin (%) Project Cost =

Similarly, we understand 5D:

Cannot
x Ratio production / unit + Location = temporary Planning

is easy to see the advantages we can obtain updated information available and reliable real-time cost, as well as projections and comparative alternative if the project economic cash flows over the life of the project, anticipating economic deviations, etc.
Example BIM model. Details of offices, Logispark Carmona.

addition, the engineering department still working to fully integrate the design software and energy calculation programs including the integration of services and facilities, with the aim of improving the quality of our projects.

Project I + D + i 'Joist Beam'

Unlike Europeans structural designs that are used, based mostly on the use of hot-rolled profiles, we have always taken care put in some American structural designs. In particular to which are characterized by the use of cold formed profiles (coldformed profiles) and of course the armed grid variable section (welded tapered sections).
Regarding the first type, with a normative basis cosnta broad and constant experimentation and advanced achievements surprised to see roof structures for large surfaces with a system called 'joist beam. "

This system is based on employment as the only structure covered with a large belt light, consisting of cold formed profiles in the form of lattice, which sits on the walls of the building envelope, or conventional metal frame.
cosiguen designs are really very low weight per m2 and a completely light appearance.
With the idea put into continuous improvement of our buildings, developed in 2006 in collaboration with the School of Industrial Engineering at the University of Girona, a draft final career studying these elements.
The idea was to use two types of cold-formed profile available in our production of structures, to form some elements' joist beam "completely screwed for jobs in logistics preferred type buildings.
The project consisted of a theoretical part, where analyzed the properties of thin sections based on the EN-1993-1-3 (Eurocode 3). From here, the second part consisted of developing a table for using these items, depending on the load, length between supports, separation between profiles, etc). Finally, the project consisted of a load test test scale in our facility, supervised by staff from the University of Girona.

The results calibrate the theoretical model calculation, taking into account phenomena due mainly to the effect of gambling in the holes bolted connections. This type of structural element light is shown valid for lights cover more than 20 mts.

Navy Diver Death Rate

poems Charles Simic / a fly Susan

.
Thirty years ago, while living in New York, I stayed awake almost every night listening to the wordy soliloquies of Jean Shepherd on the radio. It was a program in which they said many interesting things and you could hear a little music. One night was a long story that I still remember on a sacred ritual practiced an Amazonian tribe. Broadly speaking, it was something.

Once every seven years the members of this remote tribe dig a deep hole in the thick of the jungle and left there with the best flautist. Then Tribe members say goodbye to him, never to return. At seven days, the flutist, with legs crossed in the depths of the hole, he started playing. Members of his tribe can not hear, of course, only the gods can do, and indeed that is the purpose of the rite.

According to Shepherd, who had no qualms about deceiving their insomniac listeners, an anthropologist had remained hidden during the ritual and had managed to record the piper. That night Shepherd was going to issue this recording.

I felt creepy. A man about to die, bewildered by hunger and despair, he gathered what little strength and faith in the gods he had left. A New World Orpheus, I thought.

Shepherd kept talking and talking until finally, in the silence of the morning, in my den of East Thirteenth Street, he heard the faint sound of the flute and the supernatural: a lonely, infinitely sad lament mixing occasionally, breathing creature still live audible resigned to accept the terrible situation in which he stood. At that time I did not care that the story was real or a figment of Shepherd, and I still think the same. In fact, we all live in the bottom of our hole particular, even here in New York.

All arts have to do with the impasse in which we live. It is their fatal attraction. "Words fail me ', they say the poets. Every poem is an act of desperation or if you prefer, a dice roll. God is the ideal audience, especially if you can not sleep or find yourself in a hole in the Amazon. If necessary, even worse.

The poet sits in front of blank paper with the need to say much in the limited space of the poem. The world is huge, the poet and the poem alone is only a fragment of language, a feather that broke the silence of the night.

may be the case that the poet wants to talk of his life. A handful of images resulting from a fleeting moment of happiness or extreme lucidity. The secret desire of poetry is to stop time. The poet wants to rescue a face, a mood, a cloud in the sky, a tree in the wind and take a kind of mental picture of that moment when the reader recognizes himself. The poems are snapshots of other people whom we recognize ourselves.

On the other hand, the poet is driven to tell the truth. "How to be expressed the truth? "asked Gwendolyn Brooks. Truth matters. Getting it right matters. The realistic advice is: open your eyes and look. Proponents of the imagination advice: close your eyes to see better. There is a truth that is perceived with the eyes open and another that is accessed with eyes closed, and sometimes these two truths are not recognized when they cross the street.

addition, one would say something about the times in which we live. Every age has its injustices and suffering unconscionable, and ours is far less an exception. We must face up to history of human evil, and every day we find new examples on which to reflect. You can think about it all you want, but understand it is another story. We live in a time when there are hundreds of ways to explain the world. You can believe in anything, in all religions and all varieties of scientism. Perhaps the task of poetry is to rescue the vestiges of authenticity can still be found in the ruins of religious systems, philosophical and political.

addition, one would write a poem so well done to do honor to the tradition represented by Emily Dickinson, Ezra Pound and Wallace Stevens, to name just a few teachers.

other hand, one hopes to overcome that tradition, revolution and put it upside down and find their own living space.

Moreover, one would entertain the reader with the help of dazzling metaphors, fits of imagination and heart-rending statements.

Moreover, most of the time one has no idea of \u200b\u200bwhat it does. Words make love on the page like flies in the heat of summer, and the poem owes much to chance as to the intention. Probably even more.

This is only a small commands a huge menu that could only serve one of those many-armed Hindu deities.

A major drawback of poetry, or one of its biggest attractions, depends on how you look, is being designed to cover everything. In the cold light of reason, writing poetry is impossible.

predictions we read so often say that poetry is about to disappear are completely wrong, as wrong as most of the twentieth century intellectuals prophecies. Poetry demonstrates and again that the general theories do not work alone. Poetry is the cat serenade under the window of the room where you enter the official version of reality. Academic critics write for instance, that poetry is an instrument of the ideology of the ruling classes and everything is political. It turns out that Anna Akhmatova was tormented in fact their guardian angels. But what if poets were not crazy? And if they were able to convey the feeling of a historical period better than anyone? Obviously, the poem captures something essential to human beings, something that is often overlooked, and it is this ineffable quality that has ensured its Longevity has always been. "To glimpse the essential ... stay lying down all day and complain," says EM Cioran. Poetry is much more than that, of course, but as a start is not bad.

lyric poets perpetuate old values \u200b\u200bof the Earth. They claim the individual's experience against that of the tribe. Emerson said that a genius was tantamount to "believing in what you think, believe what you believe is good for you deep in your heart it is for other men." From the Greek lyric poetry has always been based on that budget, but Whitman and Emerson became the fundamental premise of American poetry. Everything in the world, whether secular or sacred, must be reconsidered in light of personal experience.

Here and now I am afraid of living my life ... the American poet is the modern citizen of a democracy that lacks a historical, religious or philosophical defined. Marxists used to mock such claims and said they were "typical of bourgeois individualism." "They love to smell your own shit," said an acquaintance of mine alluding to the poets. Maoist era and the idea that every man could find his own truth he found incomprehensible. However, this is what I thought Robert Frost, Charles Olson and even Elizabeth Bishop. They were realists who had not yet decided what is the reality. His poetry defends the sanctity of that search in which reality and rediscover identity forever.

is not in the imagination or the identity they trust our foremost poets, but in the examples, stories or experiences. Poets still have a lot of Puritan diarist. Like their ancestors, introduced remarks on the state of his inner life in his diary entries that talk about the weather. The problem of identity is always present, as the nagging suspicion that the existence is meaningless. The working premise, however, is that each individual is representative of even their most intimate concerns that the "aesthetic problem," as John Ashbery has said, is "a microcosm of all human problems," the poem is the where the "I" of the poet, courtesy of a visionary alchemy, becomes the mirror of us all.

"America is not over, may never become so," said Whitman. Our poetry is dramatic awareness of that state. His heresy is to consider that part of the truth is the truth absolute and turn it into "a place where temporary refuge from the confusion," according to Robert Frost's famous formulation. In physics, the infinitely small contradicts the general law, and the same is true of good poetry. What we like about it is the democratic nature of his values, his reckless attitude, individualism and freedom. There is nothing more American and more hopeful that American poetry.

chained A black dog wags its tail when it happened to him. The house and barn of his master warp like to sink overwhelmed by the sky. On the porch and my neighbor's patio store old cars, stoves, refrigerators, washers and dryers that comes from the municipal landfill in the future, give them a purpose which is not clear, yet to be decided. Everything is broken, rusting, dismantled and dispersed, except for an incongruous plaster statue of the Virgin Mary that looks new and looks down, as if ashamed of being there. Behind his house on the lake you can see a spectacular winter sunset, as the pictures they sell at the offer section of department stores. Regarding the piper, I remember reading that in the far southwestern deserts can be found matches made figurines on the walls of some caves and some of them play the flute. In New Hampshire, where I write this, only this house is dark, ghostly statue, the silence of the woods and the cold winter night that falls in a hurry.

Difference Between Realm And Figment

What about BIM (2)

As mentioned in another post, the term BIM is now focusing a lot discussions. As an example I would cite the group LinkedIn's 'BIM EXPERTS', a group with an intense daily activity, which reflects the increasing interest in this matter.
Noting the large number of open debates, one can see that most debates revolve around identifying the best BIM software can be obtained to develop a BIM project for an architectural firm, engineering and construction (hereinafter AEC). Note that there is no unanimity on the matter, which is logical.
Our long experience in the use of BIM work environments allows us to state in summary fashion that: 1 .-
currently there is no perfect tool BIM.
2 .- a good tool BIM does not guarantee you a good project BIM.
3 .- The BIM is not achieved with a single tool.

Regarding point 1 is easy to glimpse that while much progress has been made, we are in a fledgling stage, so the BIM software will evolve is still much in the coming years. Our organization
bet at the time by the software Tekla Structures Tekla, Tekla Structures now called, long before there was talk of BIM. Over the years we have seen that was a good choice.
This is because I understand that the BIM is nothing if not at least cover the design and implementation phases (manufacturing and construction). In this sense it is a big plus software originally developed for implementation tasks that are then extended to design work (architecture) not the reverse. We have no day of software that is increasingly architectural features, which allows the passage of the 3D model manufacturing.
I am convinced that software generation born into the world of architecture (Revit, Allplan ,...) have a much more complex process to arrive at total BIM, since they are great difficulties to make your models fully executives .

Regarding point 2, I find that the BIM process to focus only the tool is not completely right.
Consider that a design team with no proven experience in project not only but also in implementation and monitoring of work, possibly running good then submit 3D models surely constructability difficulties. Therefore
beyond the software is needed multidisciplicar team with great expertise in the conceptual design of buildings, as well as manufacturing and construction. This, like all well understand, it's overwhelming through proven experience.

Finally, with regard to point 3, the current key BIM software is interoperability. The main software must be able intercanviador information that specific structural design software, thermal, and earthmoving equipment (MEP, an acronym for Mechanical Electrical & Plumbing). Many efforts are being invested in getting intercanviador formats that allow the passage of the properties of a model to different software, and is today the IFC format which aims to be the format for the next time intercanviador.
