Project I + D + i 'Joist Beam'

Unlike Europeans structural designs that are used, based mostly on the use of hot-rolled profiles, we have always taken care put in some American structural designs. In particular to which are characterized by the use of cold formed profiles (coldformed profiles) and of course the armed grid variable section (welded tapered sections).

This system is based on employment as the only structure covered with a large belt light, consisting of cold formed profiles in the form of lattice, which sits on the walls of the building envelope, or conventional metal frame.

With the idea put into continuous improvement of our buildings, developed in 2006 in collaboration with the School of Industrial Engineering at the University of Girona, a draft final career studying these elements.

The project consisted of a theoretical part, where analyzed the properties of thin sections based on the EN-1993-1-3 (Eurocode 3). Finally, the project consisted of a load test test scale in our facility, supervised by staff from the University of Girona.


The results calibrate the theoretical model calculation, taking into account phenomena due mainly to the effect of gambling in the holes bolted connections. This type of structural element light is shown valid for lights cover more than 20 mts.
